THE MOST COMMON MISTAKE
Most people think cartooning is nothing more than Arts & Crafts or drawing. It is MUCH more fun
and it also allows you to use almost every other thing you've ever learned in life.
To demonstrate, I will take you through a step-by-step creation of a cartoon. |
| This is the "arts & crafts" horse. Nice, but quite boring. This is NOT a cartoon!. |
The first step to change a horse into a cartoon is to give it character. |
The next step is to add a story element. Who is the saddle for? |
| Next, we add scenery, and by drawing these objects smaller we add depth . |
Now, we add the second story element: a rider. Time also to add color. |
The last steps: tell the story, create the joke. Add text and motion lines! |
As you can see, cartooning is so much fun because you get to use everything you've ever learned!
History and physics, for example, because if you know your history, and the physical properties of
an apple and an anvil, you can create a cartoon like this: |
Math, social sciences, biology, the newspaper article you read or the Discovery documentary you just watched,
that challenge at work, that colleague that fell asleep, that presentation you put together, everything can be used
to create your cartoons.
For adults this means a hobby that can be an outlet for all that trivia you've learned in your life, for children it can be
a very useful learning experience that is SUPER FUN to do! |
